Woman Allegedly Assaulted During Bihu Festivities in Assam; One Detained, Another Absconding

During a Bihu cultural event in Digboi, Assam, a young woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by two youths. The incident occurred on April 21 when the victim was reportedly taken to another location by the accused on a bike and forcibly given intoxicating substances before the assault. Afterward, the victim approached Digboi Police Station to file a complaint. One accused, Munna Bhumiz, has been detained, while another, Ravi Saikia, remains at large. The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association has demanded the swift apprehension of the absconding accused, emphasizing the victim’s belonging to the Tea Tribes community.
