20 Convicts Get Life Term in Abhi-Neel Lynching Case

A court in Nagaon on Friday sentenced 20 convicts to life imprisonment in the 2018 Abhi-Neel mob lynching case under Section 302 of the IPC. Each convict was also fined Rs 20,000.

The families of victims Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das expressed disappointment, saying they had expected the death penalty. Nilotpal’s father said the family is considering approaching the High Court.

The case relates to the lynching of the two youths at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong on June 8, 2018, which had sparked nationwide outrage.
