Misappropriation Scandal: Charge Sheet Filed Against 21 PWD Officials in Assam

The Assam Police has submitted a charge sheet against 21 Public Works Department (PWD) officials in the Special Court after completing the investigation and obtaining prosecution sanction. The charge sheet, numbered 02/2024 and dated February 26, 2024, is a result of an FIR lodged against officials of PWD (Road) on charges of misappropriating government funds amounting to Rs. 1,30,47,282.00. The accused officials are alleged to have collaborated with contractors to submit forged demand proposals against 16 fake work orders for road construction that never took place in the field. The case, registered under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, originated from six forged demand proposals and later expanded to include ten more suspected forged works during the investigation.
