Guwahati Police Arrests Married Couple in Drug Peddling Case

Guwahati Police arrested a married couple, Hiteswar Kalita and Mamoni Kalita, for dealing with drugs and contraband near the city’s Adabari locality. The arrest followed an intelligence input, leading to the couple’s detention with Nitrazepam tablets. Further investigation revealed additional tablets during a house search. Hiteswar Kalita, the son of a retired government official, was found to be involved in drug peddling despite his employment as a Peer Educator at an NGO. The couple’s interrogation led to the arrest of another drug peddler, Amarendra Kalita, and the recovery of more tablets. The detained persons have connections in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, from where they receive contraband consignments. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further interrogation is ongoing to uncover additional linkages.
