1,700 Manipur Residents Seek Refuge in Assam Amid Ongoing Tensions
Amidst ongoing tensions in Manipur, approximately 1,700 people have sought refuge in Assam’s Cachar district, according to District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a video conference with DC Jha and SP Numal Mahatta to address the situation, particularly concerning recent violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district near the Assam-Manipur border. The Chief Minister instructed officials to maintain peace in Cachar and conduct a survey of incoming refugees. SP Mahatta noted that vigilance has been heightened to prevent any spillover of tension into Assam. Earlier this month, over 600 people from Jiribam had already taken shelter in Lakhipur subdivision, Cachar.
