Opposition Stages Protests Over Crime Surge in Assam Assembly

The Assam Legislative Assembly’s second day saw continued turmoil as Opposition parties, including Congress and Raijor Dal, staged protests against the rise in crimes against women, alleged atrocities against minorities, and a perceived breakdown of law and order in the state. Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, and MLA Akhil Gogoi highlighted the surge in crimes, particularly against women, under the BJP’s rule. Gogoi’s criticism drew a strong rebuttal from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika, who accused him of supporting criminals. The session remains tense as four Bills are set to be tabled.
