Tezpur University Launches National Workshop on Textile Documentation and Preservation

Tezpur University’s Department of Cultural Studies has launched a two-day national workshop focused on the Documentation and Preservation of Textiles. Dr. Smita Singh, a Textile Conservation Consultant, led the inaugural session, while Dr. Anamika Pathak, former Curator at the National Museum, joined virtually.

Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of traditional textile techniques in showcasing human civilization’s artistry. Prof. Farheena Danta emphasized the role of textile documentation in preserving cultural heritage. Dr. Juri Gogoi Konwar discussed challenges in textile preservation, and Dr. Subhra Devi focused on Northeast India’s textile heritage.

The workshop began with tributes to Padma Shri Prof. Birendranath Datta and Dr. Rabin Dev Choudhury. It includes lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on demonstrations from textile conservation experts.
