Supreme Court Rejects Plea to Replace EVMs with Ballot Papers

The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL seeking to replace EVMs with ballot papers, citing lack of evidence for alleged manipulability. Justices Vikram Nath and P.B. Varale criticized inconsistent claims by political leaders about EVM tampering based on election outcomes.

The court highlighted the advantages of EVMs, including prevention of booth capturing, elimination of invalid votes, and faster counting. It warned that persistent doubts without evidence undermine trust in the electoral process. Efforts to revert to paper ballots were deemed regressive and impractical.
