Laokhowa and Burhachapori Sanctuaries Revive Rhino Habitat in Assam
The Laokhowa and Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuaries in Assam, once ravaged by poaching, are now crucial habitats for the greater one-horned rhinoceros. Improved conservation, community involvement, and enhanced connectivity with Kaziranga and Orang National Parks have led to rhino migration and permanent settlement in these sanctuaries.
On December 7, the Nagaon Wildlife Division conducted a rapid orientation program for 100 staff members. Experts from Aaranyak and Nagaon Girls’ College provided training in rhino monitoring and habitat protection.
These efforts, part of the Indian Rhino Vision initiative, aim to establish a sustainable rhino population in the sanctuaries.
