Union Cabinet Approves ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill

The Union Cabinet has approved the “One Nation, One Election” bill, aiming to synchronize elections nationwide. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the move, highlighting its potential to minimize disruptions to development caused by frequent polls.

Sarma referenced the panel led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, whose recommendations include implementing unified elections by 2029, pending parliamentary approval.

While the BJP and allies support the initiative, opposition parties like Congress and AAP have raised objections. The bill is expected to be tabled in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, promising a transformative change in India’s election process.
