Kaziranga Reopens Central Range, Marks Start of New Tourist Season

Kaziranga National Park’s Central (Kohora) Range reopened on Sunday, officially beginning the 2025–26 tourism season. Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary inaugurated the opening, expressing confidence that tourist numbers will surpass last year’s record.

Kaziranga saw 4,43,636 visitors in the previous season, a 35% rise from earlier, including over 17,000 foreign tourists. Officials highlighted improved facilities and the positive impact of tourism on local livelihoods.

Jeep safaris and elephant rides are now available at Kohora, complementing the already open Bagori, Burapahar, and Agoratoli ranges. A 10-km “Kaziranga Rhino Run” marathon also marked the occasion.
