Govt Accepts 52 Assam Accord-Related Recommendations, Says AASU

AASU announced that the Assam Government has accepted 52 recommendations of the Biplab Kumar Sharma Committee after a key tripartite meeting on November 22. The accepted points—covering land rights, cultural preservation, administrative reforms, and protection of indigenous communities—will be implemented in phases and many are reflected in the 2024–25 Budget.

However, no agreement was reached on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which AASU continues to oppose.

Key approved measures include strict action against illegal land encroachment, a state-wide land survey by April 14, new laws to protect indigenous land, compulsory Assamese in English-medium schools in the Brahmaputra Valley, cultural reforms, heritage projects, and major allocations for Satras and cultural institutions.

A Monitoring Committee with AASU representatives will track the implementation of all accepted recommendations.
