Eviction Drive Clears Encroachments in Nagaon’s Lutamaari Reserve Forest

Authorities on Saturday began a large eviction drive in Nagaon’s Lutamaari Reserve Forest, removing around 1,700 families from nearly 5,962 bighas of protected land. Over 1,000 police personnel assisted the Forest Department during the operation, which followed eviction notices issued three months earlier.

Officials said the action complies with court orders and aims to protect the reserve forest notified in 1919. Residents leaving the area sought rehabilitation support. Forest officials stated the eviction will help reduce human-elephant conflict once nearby encroached areas are also cleared.
