PM Modi Lays Foundation of Namrup Fertiliser Plant, Targets Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a ₹10,601-crore ammonia-urea plant at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh district and accused the Congress of indulging in vote-bank politics and protecting illegal infiltrators.

Modi said Congress governments neglected Assam and the Northeast for decades, leading to the decline of the once-key Namrup fertiliser unit. He said the new plant would boost domestic urea production, ensure affordable fertilisers for farmers and reduce import dependence.

Highlighting farmer welfare schemes, the Prime Minister cited PM-Kisan, Kisan Credit Cards and other initiatives, claiming they have strengthened rural incomes and lifted millions out of poverty.

The project, to be implemented by AVFCCL, will have an annual urea capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes and is scheduled for commissioning in 2030. Assam ministers said the project reflects the Centre’s commitment to Assam’s development and long-pending demands of the people.
