Protests Erupt Across Assam Over Lynching of Hindu Man in Bangladesh

Widespread protests have broken out across Assam following the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man killed by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on December 18. Demonstrations were reported from Sonitpur, Bijni, Jagiroad, Hojai, Lahorighat, Margherita, Hailakandi and Nalbari, with protesters condemning attacks on minorities and demanding strong diplomatic action.
Effigies of Muhammad Yunus were burnt at several locations, and memorandums were submitted seeking justice and protection for minorities. Similar protests were also held in Delhi outside the Bangladesh High Commission. The incident has intensified concerns over minority safety in Bangladesh.
