Centre Clears Land Acquisition to Expand Tezpur Air Force Base

The Centre has approved the acquisition of 382.82 acres at Bokajan village in Sonitpur district to expand the Indian Air Force’s Tezpur air base. The land will be used for infrastructure development, induction of advanced weapon systems, and strategic assets at 11 Wing, amid efforts to strengthen India’s eastern defence theatre.

Sources said the upgrade could support deployment of advanced air defence systems such as the S-400, enhance aircraft capacity, and add hardened aircraft shelters. The long-pending expansion was delayed due to land scarcity. Tezpur air base, established during World War II, currently hosts Su-30 squadrons and other key strategic assets.
