Opposition Alleges BJP Plot to Manipulate Voter Rolls in Assam

Opposition parties in Assam on Friday filed a police complaint at Dispur Police Station, accusing the BJP of conspiring to manipulate electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The joint complaint by Congress, CPI(M), Raijor Dal, AJP and CPI(ML)L named Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, alleging plans to delete opposition supporters’ names from voter lists in around 60 constituencies.

The parties claimed the alleged instructions were issued during a January 4 video conference and urged police to examine the footage as evidence. Opposition leaders said the move amounts to voter disenfranchisement and demanded legal action to protect democracy.

Police confirmed receipt of the complaint, while the opposition maintained that the allegations are linked to the ongoing Special Revision of electoral rolls, with the final list due on February 10.
