Assam Don Bosco University to Launch Northeast’s First Satellite LACHIT-1

Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) is set to launch LACHIT-1, the Northeast’s first satellite, aboard ISRO’s PSLV-C62 on January 12 as part of Dhruva Space’s Polar Access-1 mission. Named after Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, the satellite marks the region’s entry into space technology.

Developed under Dhruva Space’s ASTRA programme, LACHIT-1 is a store-and-forward amateur radio satellite that will be accessible to licensed operators worldwide and useful for disaster and emergency communication. The mission involved over 50 students and faculty from across the Northeast. ADBU will operate the satellite using its ground station and Dhruva Space’s operations suite, offering hands-on space mission experience to students.
