Clash at Makrong Tea Estate Over Land Encroachment Leaves One Injured

A violent clash erupted early Friday at Makrong Tea Estate in Golaghat district over alleged land encroachment.

Jiten Chawtal, the garden secretary, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Golaghat Civil Hospital. The conflict began after two individuals allegedly fenced off a section of estate land.

When the management asked them to remove the encroachment, the situation turned violent, with attacks on the committee president and secretary.

Following the incident, hundreds of workers gathered, removed the fencing, and tensions escalated further when police faced resistance while trying to detain the accused. A complaint has been filed at Merapani Police Station.
