Himanta Welcomes Appeals to Avoid Cow Slaughter During Bakrid in Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday welcomed appeals by several Eidgah committees across the state urging people to refrain from cow slaughter during Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations.
Sarma said such voluntary initiatives by committees in Hojai, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Udharbond and other areas would help strengthen communal harmony in Assam. He also expressed hope that more Eidgah committees would issue similar appeals.
Meanwhile, district administrations, especially in Dhubri, have intensified preparations and security measures ahead of Bakrid, with officials stressing strict adherence to the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, to maintain peace and order.
