Lower Assam-Guwahati Bus Fares May Rise by 70% from July 1

Guwahati: The All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has proposed a 70% hike in bus fares on Lower Assam-Guwahati routes, effective from July 1, citing rising fuel and operational costs.

The association has submitted a memorandum to the state government and is awaiting approval. Transport operators say the fare revision is necessary to sustain services and repay loans, warning of possible protests if the demand is not accepted.

The proposed hike has raised concerns among passengers, who fear a significant increase in travel expenses. Notices regarding the proposed fare revision have already been displayed on buses operating on the route.
