Assam Warns Seed Suppliers Against Delays and Poor Quality

Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika has warned seed suppliers that strict legal action, including criminal proceedings, blacklisting and licence cancellation, will be taken against those providing delayed or poor-quality seeds to farmers.

Chairing a review meeting with district agriculture officers at Khanapara, the minister stressed timely distribution of quality seeds and fertilizers. He also directed officials to intensify farmer registration drives, aiming to add 5–7 lakh more farmers within six months.

Hazarika further emphasized expanding enrolment under PM-KISAN and crop insurance schemes while promoting diversification into horticulture, pulses and oil palm cultivation to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen Assam’s agricultural economy.
