Assam Budget Focuses on Healthcare Expansion and Medical Infrastructure

Dispur: The Assam Government has announced several major healthcare initiatives in the 2026–27 Budget, including plans to provide MBBS doctors at every sub-centre, establish a 50-bedded First Referral Unit in every Assembly constituency, and expand the state to 28 medical colleges.
The government also highlighted improvements in health indicators, with the Maternal Mortality Ratio falling to 84, increased institutional deliveries, and a decline in child marriage. Additionally, ₹1 lakh financial assistance was announced for eligible children and widows affected by HIV/AIDS.
