Assam Government Tightens Crackdown on Polygamy

Guwahati: The Assam Government has announced that individuals practising polygamy will be barred from government welfare schemes, while government employees found involved in polygamy will face dismissal from service. The measures, announced in the 2026-27 State Budget, are aimed at promoting women’s empowerment, gender justice and responsible family values.
