Assam Government Defends Borrowing Policy, Says Loans Within Fiscal Limits

Guwahati: Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah defended the Assam government’s borrowing policy, stating that all loans are taken with Central approval and within prescribed fiscal limits. He rejected Opposition allegations over rising state debt, saying repayments are being made on time and all borrowing follows statutory norms.

The Minister also said the government aims to increase Assam’s own revenue to 50% by 2031, while highlighting Budget initiatives to boost agriculture, irrigation, entrepreneurship, and youth employment.
