Assam Congress to Intensify Campaign Against Mining Syndicates

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has decided to take its campaign against alleged coal, stone and sand syndicates to the grassroots, accusing such activities of contributing to environmental damage and worsening flood impacts in parts of Upper Assam. The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi on August 16, where the party also assessed flood relief efforts and preparations for upcoming elections.

The APCC also opposed the proposed reduction of Kaziranga’s eco-sensitive zone and the acquisition of indigenous land at Engleng Pathar for corporate interests. The party plans to launch a wider public campaign on these issues, while also organising a state-level youth convention and zonal training programmes for workers. Congress leaders further discussed concerns over appointments in universities and colleges and strengthening the party’s social media and organisational network ahead of the polls.
