Elderly Bokakhat Residents Allegedly Targeted in ATM Card-Swapping Fraud

BOKAKHAT: A suspected fraud gang has allegedly targeted elderly ATM users in Bokakhat by swapping their debit cards after obtaining their PINs, leading to substantial unauthorised cash withdrawals and purchases. Retired resident Phulen Chandra Kakoti reportedly lost ₹2.29 lakh, while another elderly victim, Bora, allegedly suffered losses of over ₹1.11 lakh.

Both victims have lodged complaints with Bokakhat Police. The suspected gang allegedly used the swapped cards to withdraw cash and purchase jewellery in Jorhat, with one suspect reportedly captured on video at a jewellery shop. Police have been informed, and the incidents have raised concerns over ATM security in the area.
