Foreigners Tribunal Member Arrested Over Alleged ₹15,000 Bribe Demand in Udalguri

Udalguri: A member of a Foreigners Tribunal in Assam’s Udalguri district, identified as Bhupen Chandra Pegu, has been arrested for allegedly demanding a ₹15,000 bribe in connection with bail proceedings, police said on Friday.

According to police, an FIR was registered at Mazbat Police Station on August 29 following a complaint against Pegu. He has been booked under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to extortion. Police have not disclosed further details about the complainant or the ongoing investigation.
