Tonganagaon Tea Estate Pays Puja Bonus Through DBT

Tinsukia: Tonganagaon Tea Estate in Kakopathar, a unit of the Chamong Group of Gardens, has introduced Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for its Durga Puja bonus on an experimental basis. The management transferred more than Rs 1.28 crore to the bank accounts of around 1,600 workers on September 17.

Estate General Manager Alok D Jakhmola said 15 per cent of the workers’ 20 per cent bonus has already been credited, while the remaining five per cent will be deposited before Christmas. The digital payment system has particularly been welcomed by women workers, who said direct deposits would give them greater control over their earnings and allow them to access the money according to their needs.
