Himanta Biswa Sarma Accuses Congress of Undermining Indian Democracy

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of undermining India’s democratic institutions by questioning election results when the party loses. He alleged that the Congress was targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the judiciary, and challenged Rahul Gandhi to reconsider Congress-ruled state governments if he doubted elections conducted under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Sarma also defended electronic voting machines (EVMs) and called for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls every five years to remove foreign nationals’ names. He announced that the BJP would organise district-level peace rallies across Assam from October 13 to 31 in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, democratic institutions and the vision of a developed India by 2047.
