Cotton University Completes Digitisation of 11 Rare Sanchipat Manuscripts at Jania Satra

Barpeta, October 31: Cotton University’s Assamese Department has successfully completed the digitisation of all 11 rare sanchipat manuscripts preserved at the historic Jania Satra in Assam’s Barpeta district. The centuries-old manuscripts, including Namghosha, Kirtan Ghosha and Bhakti Ratnavali, represent an important part of Assam’s Vaishnavite literary and cultural heritage.
The project began in January 2025 with the digitisation of six manuscripts, while the remaining five were completed on Thursday. Dr Maheswar Kalita, Head of the Assamese Department, said the initiative would preserve these valuable texts for future generations and make them accessible to researchers and scholars worldwide.
