AASU Clarifies Stand After Office-Bearer’s Arrest in ULFA-I Fund Transfer Case

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Monday clarified that it has never supported violence or the ideology of any armed organization following the arrest of its assistant general secretary Samarjyoti Gohain in Tinsukia over alleged fund transfers linked to ULFA-I.
AASU leaders Utpal Sharma and Samiran Phukan said the organization believes in peaceful and democratic methods and has faith in the judiciary and legal system. They stated that Gohain has already taken legal recourse and the law will take its own course.
The student body also announced that it would conduct an internal review into the matter. Chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya reiterated that there is no place for violence within AASU and that the organization remains committed to non-violent principles.
