Two Suspected ULFA-I Members Injured in Police Operation in Assam’s Sivasagar

Two suspected members of banned insurgent outfit ULFA-I were injured during a police operation in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Sunday following an alleged extortion attempt targeting a local businessman.
The injured were identified as Ritu Gogoi and Jitu Gogoi, both from Bogidol Molai village. Police said six youths arrived on three motorcycles to allegedly collect extortion money when security personnel intercepted them.
According to Sivasagar SSP Papori Chetia, the suspects allegedly opened fire on police, leading to retaliatory firing. Two police personnel and the two suspects were injured in the exchange. Ritu Gogoi was later shifted to Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered arms and motorcycles from the spot, while four other suspects managed to escape. A search operation is currently underway.
