AASU Holds Special General Meeting in Sivasagar

Brief: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) began its two-day special general meeting at Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra near Talatal Ghar. Over 5,000 student representatives attended. AASU president Utpal Sarmah criticized the government for undermining Assam’s cultural diversity and failing in key sectors. The meeting was called after the resignation of general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah, with Samiran Phukan elected as the new general secretary. Chief adviser Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharyya emphasized the need for an intellectual and educational movement in Assam while paying tribute to Assam Movement martyrs.
