AASU Protests Illegal Hill-Cutting on World Environment Day

On World Environment Day, the Jorabat branch of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) protested against illegal hill-cutting near Byrnihat in the Sonapur forest range. Highlighting environmental degradation, an AASU member wore a mask resembling State Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and carried a banner condemning the illegal activities.

Chanting slogans like “Stop hill-cutting in Dimoria,” the protest accused the forest department of negligence. The event concluded with a plantation drive, where AASU members planted saplings.

Additionally, the 1st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Sonapur planted 900 saplings in a mega-plantation drive supported by local schools and communities.
