AERC Approves APDCL’s Purchase of 200 MW Hydro Power

The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) approved Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) to procure 200 MW of power at Rs 5.46/unit from the 1200 MW Kalai II Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

The project, developed by THDCIL, is slated for completion by 2031. AERC mandated that the tariff remain unchanged, disallowing increases due to delays or cost overruns.

APDCL highlighted Assam’s growing power demand, exceeding 2809 MW in FY 2024-25, and emphasized the need for long-term agreements to ensure reliable supply. The purchase supports Assam’s Renewable Power Obligation and boosts clean energy initiatives.
