AFSPA Reduced to 3 Assam Districts Amid Improved Law & Order

AFSPA, imposed across Assam since 1990, now remains in only three districts—Tinsukia, Sivasagar, and Charaideo—due to their proximity to Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Authorities cite militant activity in border areas as the reason. ULFA(I) still operates camps in Myanmar, with around 200 cadres led by top commanders. The group targets local businesses for extortion and has seen reduced recruitment post-CAA protests. Paresh Baruah may visit camps during Rongali Bihu. Reports suggest weakened ISI support for NE insurgents.
