After 44 years, ULFA dissolves; historic tripartite agreement spurs dissolution and restoration efforts

Forty-four years after its founding, the pro-talk group of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) formally dissolved on December 29th, after a tripartite agreement.

The deal stipulates that ULFA must give up violence, surrender their weapons within 30 days, and dissolve. The agreement was signed by the Assam government, the central government, and ULFA.

The group’s general secretary, Anup Chetia, reportedly revealed the intention to dissolve during a meeting in the Darrang area of Assam.
