AIUDF Walks Out of Assam Assembly Over Remarks on ‘Miya’ Community

AIUDF legislators staged a walkout from the Assam Assembly after their adjournment motion seeking discussion on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s alleged remarks against the “miya” community was rejected. MLA Aminul Islam accused the CM of making provocative statements that have led to harassment and attacks on Bengali-speaking Muslims in parts of Upper Assam. Speaker Biswajit Daimary said the issue could be raised during the Governor’s address debate and ruled out an adjournment motion due to the presentation of the vote on account, prompting the Opposition protest.
