All Bodies Recovered from Flooded Umrangso Coal Mine After 42-Day Operation
After 42 days of intense rescue efforts, the NDRF and Indian Army recovered the last five bodies from the flooded illegal rat-hole coal mine at Tin Kilo, Umrangso, in Dima Hasao district on Wednesday. This marks the temporary end of the operation, which began on January 6 when nine miners were reported trapped. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma credited the dewatering of the mine for enabling the recovery. Families of the victims will receive ₹10 lakh each in compensation. The Gauhati High Court has demanded detailed reports on measures against illegal mining.
