Arms Licence Policy Not for Inter-State Borders, Clarifies Assam CM

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the state’s new arms licence policy for indigenous citizens will apply only to vulnerable international border areas, not inter-state borders. He cited national security concerns along the Bangladesh border and denied any link to state border disputes. The scheme targets districts like Dhubri, South Salmara, Barpeta, Morigaon, and Nagaon, with strict eligibility checks. Sarma said the move responds to appeals from residents in infiltration-prone regions.
