Asharikandi Farmers Seek Government Support for Mustard Cultivation

Mustard cultivation has brought hope to farmers in Asharikandi village, Dhubri district. Farmers grow mustard on 2-5 bigha plots, sowing seeds in October-November and harvesting by March. They achieve yields of 4-5 mounds per bigha, selling at ₹1,500-₹2,200 per mound, with occasional prices reaching ₹8,500.
Despite their efforts, farmers lack government support, MSP, and local sales centers, forcing them to rely on middlemen. They urge the government to provide assistance to expand mustard farming and boost production.
