Assam Cabinet Transfers 32 Unregulated Trading Scam Cases to CBI

The Assam cabinet has decided to transfer 32 cases related to the unregulated trading investment scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision, made during a cabinet meeting on Friday, follows Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

Chief Minister Sarma confirmed the decision and noted that the central government and CBI have agreed to take over the investigation, which may take about a month to initiate.

Previously, on September 8, Sarma hinted at involving the CBI, depending on the complexity of the cases under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The scam came to light when the Chief Minister flagged suspicious activities, leading to over 60 arrests by Assam police and the formation of 14 Special Investigation Teams (SITs). Lookout Circulars have been issued against those involved.
