Assam CM Sanctions Rs 3 Crore for Silchar-Kumbhirgram Airport VIP Road Renovation
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sanctioned Rs 3 crores for the renovation of the damaged portion of the Silchar-Kumbhirgram airport VIP road, which faced severe erosion due to recent heavy showers. Udharbond BJP MLA Mihir Kanti Shome brought the issue to the Chief Minister’s attention, noting significant erosion on the road leading to the airport, impacting vehicular movement.
Shome confirmed that temporary patchwork would be undertaken immediately during the current monsoon season, with permanent repairs scheduled to begin before Durga Puja. Local residents expressed concern over the rapid deterioration of the VIP road, which had already developed numerous potholes over the past months.
According to PWD sources, a seepage line beneath the road, damaged during the 2022 floods, caused the recent erosion. Despite repairs since then, heavy rains this year exacerbated the seepage issue, leading to the road damage.
