Assam CM Signals Legal Action Over Gogoi’s Children Nationality Claim

Amid the ongoing political clash in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said APCC president Gaurav Gogoi could face legal scrutiny over allegedly changing his children’s nationality before they became adults. Sarma said he would approach the Juvenile Justice Court to seek clarity on whether parents have the legal right to alter the nationality or religion of minor children.

The remarks came after Gogoi accused the government of publicising details of his minor children and warned of legal action under the Juvenile Justice Act. Sarma maintained that serious constitutional questions were involved and reiterated that documents related to Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links had already been made public. Gogoi, however, dismissed the allegations, claiming no concrete evidence was produced and termed the CM’s press conference politically motivated.
