Assam Congress Leaders Meet Families of Boat Tragedy Victims, Call for Stricter Boat Regulations

On Saturday, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah, along with a team of Congress MLAs, visited the families of the five victims who lost their lives in a boat capsize at Simlitola in Goalpara district. The APCC team expressed condolences and provided financial assistance to the bereaved families.

During media interactions, Borah urged the state government to implement strict regulations for boats, akin to those for motor vehicles, to prevent future accidents. He highlighted the necessity of life jackets and other safety measures, criticizing the lack of enforcement following past incidents, such as the Majuli boat capsize. Borah also called for discussions on employment opportunities for the victims’ families with the Assam Chief Minister.

MLAs Wajed Ali Choudhury, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Nandita Das, Jadob Swargiyari, AK Rashid Mandal, Pradip Sarkar, and other APCC members accompanied Borah in meeting the grieving families.
