Assam Declares 2025 as ‘Year of Books,’ Promotes Reading Culture

The Assam government has announced that all official gifts at government events will now be books, reinforcing its commitment to promoting literacy. Additionally, each government employee will receive a one-time grant of Rs. 1,000 to buy books.

To support young writers, the state will provide Rs. 25,000 each to 1,000 authors focusing on creative, scientific, and academic writing. Financial aid will also be given for organizing book fairs. These initiatives align with Assam’s vision to make 2025 the “Year of Books.”
