Assam Faces Significant Land Encroachment by Neighboring States
Minister Atul Bora revealed in the Assam Legislative Assembly that 82,751.8618 hectares of Assam’s land have been encroached upon by Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. The Assam government has bolstered security along these borders by deploying police commandos and establishing multiple police camps. Bora also addressed ongoing border disputes, including the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh dispute, where an MoU resolved issues over 71 villages, and the Assam-Nagaland dispute, currently in the Supreme Court. Discussions continue to resolve disputes with Meghalaya and Mizoram.
