The area served as a vital wildlife corridor linking Kaziranga and Nameri. This comes after the state’s withdrawal of a proposed 3,600 sq km eco-sensitive zone around eight protected areas. Critics allege the move favors industrial development over conservation. Concerns also grow over the fate of the 10th addition, declared in 2021.
