Assam Groups Unite Against Violence Against Women

As part of the global 16-day activism campaign against violence against women, Aman National Network and the Alliance of Feminist Collectives in Assam highlighted the state’s alarming statistics. With 32% of married women reporting spousal violence (NFHS-5) and a low conviction rate of 4.8%, activists stressed judicial and policing gaps.

The organizations urged the Assam government to ensure police register cases of violence against women, establish task forces and safety committees, and implement multi-sectoral response frameworks to protect women’s rights. They emphasized urgent, systemic intervention to end violence and uphold women’s safety.
